Recent updates to the Glens Falls Hospital logo and brand, as well as a system that was out of date with new construction and renovations, persuaded the hospital to take a fresh look at their complete interior sign system. The team at the hospital assembled a wayfinding taskforce and called on Timely Signs to design and install new signage.
The directional sign system utilizes durable curved aluminum frames that feature clear low-glare lenses and changeable printed inserts for easy updates. Dimensional logos on hanging panels reinforce the Glens Falls Hospital brand at the reception desk and key entrances. Where applicable, ADA compliant restroom and room signage is utilized.
One of the goals of the new system was to design clear You-Are-Here maps that would orient visitors on the first floor, and guide them to their destination. By assigning color-coded areas that center around major elevator banks, and icons in corresponding color, corridors and destinations are easily readable for the visitor.
During the process the wayfinding task force made the decision to utilize and direct first time visitors to only four of the 7 elevators in the facility. This enabled them to create a more consistent and understandable traffic flow while directing patients to a location using the path they would like them to travel. The result was less confusion and options for visitors and the ability for staff and volunteers to give clear directions and feel confident the new sign system will assist as they travel through the halls.
Creating a system with a consistent design and the use of Glens Falls Hospital brand colors, not only aids visitors in finding their way, but reduces visual clutter and communicates a quality of care in the hospital.
